Getting Ready for Gilbert and Sullivan
It may look like a big mess, but the stage set is under construction at Andrew Carnegie Free Library’s Music Hall in Carnegie, being prepared for the Pittsburgh Savoyards’ performance of Princess Ida. I’ve never liked recordings of these shows, but I discovered I love the productions live, and this is the 75th year the Savoyards have been performing G&S. the sets are always detailed—I think I see some stonework in progress at the bottom, the voices are spectacular and the music is a live orchestra.
