Unconcerned

I forgot to post yesterday’s snow photo! The catkins have finally begun to open, but the catkins do their thing even under the snow.

The Catkins Have Arrived

Tiny soft white kittens emerge from the hard brown shells that have been protecting them. Looks like spring to me.

Pussy Willow

What I like most is the abstraction, the light and shadow playing on the objects and the walls, both the pussy willow and the cat turning from positive objects to negative space as the sun and shadow move across them.

It’s an older photo on film, and I’ve been scanning my prints up to now. For this one I’d like to get a good negative scanner.

I featured this on The Creative Cat tonight, and if you care to you can read a little more about this photo and how it encouraged me to consider taking my photography more seriously as an art in itself, and not just as reference photos for my art.

They’ve Got the Feeling: 2011

They've got the feeling.

The pussy willow is blooming now—for real. Those hard-shell buds have been waiting, ready to burst, since the January thaw when several of them actually did burst.

I’ve seen snow on the pussy willow, but it never amounts to much. I’ve been watching this branch of the pussy willow all winter outside the bathroom window, and the fat, fuzzy catkins, the blue sky, the sunshine, the mild breeze, tell me spring is here.

It Just Says “Spring”

Pussy Willow in the Snow

I’ve got so many photos of the big storm and it’s hard to decide which one I’d use if I were to choose a more scenic image, but sometimes I like a detail image. This one of the pussy willow buds under the snow is interesting for the way the snow fell, leaving one side of the branch open, facing my window, and they look like an artifact, or a cutaway view. Two weeks ago during the January thaw I could have sworn they were beginning to burst open, but that must have been wishful thinking. I’m not ready for spring yet, anyway.
