Beauty and the Beast
The tender leaf, the fearsome thorn, on the same branch, sprouting from the same spot.
Once more, the thorny locust, this time a sapling, in spring. For perspective, the thorns are about 2.5″ long. In spring they are softer and will bend a bit, not until winter do they develop their full strength, but if pressed straight on from the point they will do some damage. I did not test them.
Note the faint spiderweb above, and how tiny the spider must be to have spun that silk.
